This innovative but dated real-time strategy game from Ubisoft puts a martial-arts twist on the usual fantasy/sci-fi theme. Released in 2001, Battle Realms quickly won a reputation as one of the most complex and sophisticated RTS games ever released. For the time, it also had impressive graphics, especially in the combat sequences. Battling units perform a wide variety of fighting moves, which, unfortunately, are out of your control. You simply issue movement and attack orders, and the AI chooses when to use units' special abilities.
This tends to make combat very difficult. As for gathering and spending, you'll need to master a tricky rice-based economy.
Battle Realms was the first game created by Liquid Entertainment and was published by Ubisoft way back 2001. An expansion, Winter of The Wolves was released in 2002. It tells the story of four warring clans: The honorable Dragon Clan, The Sly Serpent Clan, masters of corrupted magic, the Lotus Clan, and the Wolf Clan who are the most in tune. You create fighting units by converting peasants to warriors and running the warriors through other buildings, such as dojos and alchemist huts, to produce various upgrades. Rally points help automate the process. It's all pretty complicated, but the game's loyal user community can provide help if you need it. A few die-hards are still hanging in there, and who can blame them? Battle Realms' samurai swords haven't lost their edge. A few die-hards are still hanging in there, and who can blame them? Battle Realms' samurai swords haven't lost their edge. Battle Realms is set in a story-driven fantasy world that centers around the legends and myths of the martial arts, Feudal Japan, and horror stories.
The game world is comprised of several strange and legendary factions including samurai, werewolves, ninjas, and geisha warriors. Players will guide the fate of Kenji, heir to the fallen Serpent Empire. Kenji returns to his homeland after a seven-year exile, and must now make a choice whether to subjugate or liberate the feuding land. Standing against him are the untamed Wolf Clan and the malignant Lotus Clan. In addition, the game is set in a world that features a living resource system. How a player manages resources has a direct impact on remaining tactical decisions in the game.
The game also features a combat system that uses combat engagement AI. This AI supposedly allows units to react intelligently to terrain, opponent ability and distance in combat situations. In addition some units have the ability to use secondary weapons.screenshots.
Why Early Access?“For us, Early Access is all about reengaging the Battle Realms player and opening a direct dialog between them and us. We want to recreate the vibrant Battle Realms community of the past and provide the kind of direct response to questions and problems that arise during high intensity gameplay.Battle Realms isn't finished, and we intended it that way. Early Access let's us put the majority of the game on Steam and then accept the feedback from players to polish and hone the game to perfection. We are committed to making the best 1.0 possible and we want to bring the fans in from the very beginning to make the game that they want as much as we do.”Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?“I'm hoping that it will be less than a year, but it is hard to tell right now.
I want everything to work well and most, it not all bugs that we find, fixed.”How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?“Currently we are only supporting English. I'd like to be supporting all the languages BR had in it's final release, along with any bugs or exploits we find removed from play.Beyond that we are hoping for a deeper integration with Steam - including achievements and the rest.”What is the current state of the Early Access version?“Battle Realms Early Access is almost as feature complete as the 2001 release of the game. All resourcing is in, all training, upgrading, combat, FX, and environmental systems. The game should be fully playable as a single player game and up to 2v2 multiplayer. We are sorting out some minimap issues associated with interactions between the Steam Overlay and the game, and we are looking into ways of incorporating localizations in Spanish, French, Italian, and German. Originally these were all different versions with different builds but we are looking at what it would take to put it all into one version of the game.”Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?“Yes.
For now the game will be priced at roughly half of what we intend to price it at once we reach 1.0.”How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?“Community will become integral to making the best 1.0 version of the game possible. I encourage any bugs found be reported to [email protected] as we are forming a database to handle the perfecting of the game. Beyond that, as interest allows we will consider making Battle Packs, Expansions, and potentially even sequels to the game.”. Accumulate Yin or Yang to embrace the power of Monks, Ninjas, and Zen Masters.Fire isn't just a damage state.
Do enough fire damage to the building and it will be consumed unless you dowse it with fire.Include the Expansion - Winter of the Wolf which tells part of the history of the Wolf Clan and how it's unique units came to be.The game is easy enough to learn for beginners and deep enough to be satisfying for experts.
